They have learned through their array of experiences (For example, media, friends and past experiences.) to think and respond in such a way.So now let’s move to the juicy part, How do you manage and bypass this most famous question: “What Is This Call Regarding?” The receptionist is asking you this question because they do not know who you are and they are protecting not only their boss’s time, but their time as well. Either you currently do business with them, have done with them at some point in the past, you were referred to them or even have left a number of voicemails and messages for them.-It’s better to use the first name of your prospect as compared to saying, “Is Mr. (Or Mrs.) Jones available?”-If you have to ask the receptionist who is in charge of marketing (Or any title that you are targeting.) then you have set yourself up for a lot of resistance. Make sure that you know the name of your prospect prior to your telephone call. If you do not have the name of your prospect at hand then check out the company’s website for starters. This idea may seem quite obvious, but many salespeople do not do the proper research prior to making a cold call.How do you handle the receptionist’s most famous question if you have had no prior contact with them or the prospect at all? Humor is the key to reducing resistance and inspiring curiosity. In order to really pull this off, you need two more successful personality traits, what are they? So why not transfer me, right?")-I’ve been trying to reach (First name of prospect) for about one year now (Or list another time frame here.), talk about persistence!-If you have responded to their famous question with no luck then you could try this last ditch response, “(First name of receptionist), if you were me, what would you do now?”-"Do you have a few minutes for a story?"-"Would you like my Social Security Number before you transfer me?"-"Look, I'm making a cold call and I've been trying to reach (First name of prospect) for (List time frame here), do I at least get an вЂ˜A’ for persistence?"- “This will be the most important call that you will take today!”-"I saw (First name of prospect) in the local paper (List the exact paper) the other day, is the movie star out signing autographs?" Hype and value in the art market are two very different things. Hype may mean you end up buying art that sells well in the auction houses at the moment. My opinion, and I reiterate my opinion only is that the auction houses are a small step from the type of market manipulation seen so recently on Wall Street. Value art is based on Warren Buffett's philosophy, stick with good value fundamentals.So what gives art its value? It is after all just canvas and paint.Art markets work like all other markets - perception counts for about 60% and proof about 30%.Over the years I have developed these ten criteria to help me determine my purchases:Perception1. Is it scarce? If it is hard to find or tightly controlled there is a perception of specialness. That is why originals and limited edition artist prints are better value than mass produced.2. Is there a story behind the art and artist? It is hard to separate Van Gogh's life story from his art and indeed his popularity is a combination of the two.3. Is the artist well known? That doesn't mean he/she is doing the celebrity circuit but is there enough knowledge about the artist that people can feel safe in investing in him/her.4. Has the artist been widely exhibited? Sometimes a new artist may not fit this bill but in general the more exposure and recognition the better.5. Is the artist unique? That is, is his/her style recognisable, even if you don't know their name? Unique art stands the test of time and also makes people feel they know the artist and are themselves knowledgeable about art.6. Does the artist speak for his/her times? Art and artists help us define ourselves and the world around us. An artist in 2008 who expresses our issues and times will more than likely still be considered relevant in years to come. Think of how Lautrec embodied the Montmartre in Paris in the late 1800s. His art captured the times and place in a way nothing else did.Proof7. Is there provenance connected with the art? Can it be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the artist created the original work, that the limited editions are as they state and is the work made out of the materials promised. This last point is very important as the longevity and integrity of the work for both originals and limited edition prints or reproductions rely on using materials that last.8. Have other collectors purchased work by this artist? This not only means someone else likes the work enough to buy it but that there is a known market should you choose to sell.9. How much are the originals selling for in todays market? This is where scarcity can have another impact. If the artist is putting fewer originals on the market or only doing commissions then the worth of limited edition prints or reproductions generally goes up along with the price of the originals and makes collecting the artist prints even better value.The Final 10%You may have noticed the points above only add up to 90%. They are really the quantifiable factors. That indefinable something is the 10% that counts.10. Is the work great? Forget for a moment about personal taste or whether the art goes with the furniture. Is it great? Does it draw your eye to it when you enter a room? Does it say to you, this is something special? Think of all the bands from the 60s, - who is remembered most? The Beatles of course. And this is true even if they aren't your favorite band - they were very special.I work extensively with an artist who fits all these criteria, Garry Duncan, and I know that although he is a "good buy" he has an almost indefinable something that makes me know that not only has it been a wise choice to invest in his art, it has been an even better choice to support it.So look for that magic, that genius, that power and more often than not if you also take the points above on board you will be getting value in your art investment for now and for the future.Connie Woodberry, Art Collector

The second was on an ill-advised throw into coverage that could have been a score on a 47-yard field goal attempt.Daniel was part of the go-ahead play in overtime when he threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Maclin to put Missouri up 30-23. Playing without Daniel on defense, the Tigers sacked backpedaling Wildcat quarterback C. J. Bacher, forcing a fumble that left Northwestern with a 4th-and-goal from the 32-yard line. A desperation heave into the end zone was knocked down and Missouri players and fans were celebrating like there was no tomorrow.Daniel, the Tigers' senior quarterback who finished 4th in the 2007 Heisman Trophy voting, completed 27-of-44 for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bacher, Northwestern's senior quarterback, had an even better day, completing 27-of-43 for 304 yards and an Alamo Bowl-record 3 touchdowns. Bacher's day was no doubt very disappointing.Missouri was behind in the game 10-3 in the 2nd quarter and lacking momentum when its sensational sophomore wide receiver Jeremy Maclin electrified the Tigers and their fans with a show-stopping 75-yard punt return that left the Wildcats flat-footed and wondering what happened. A 'Bachelor' Reality
A 'Bachelor' Reality
For whatever reason, Brad, this season's latest bachelor decided at the time of reckoning to say 'thanks, but, no thanks', to the idea of marriage. Of course, in todays reality, let us not forget that this bit of news the viewing public saw just nights ago, actually happened well over 2 months ago in the world of REALITY TV. The filming of this emotional and dramatic episode of The Bachelor, must have been devastating for the two women involved, as well as for the man of the moment.At some point early on in the series, when many of the women had been sent home sobbing, there was an assumption from the castoffs about the two remaining women in competition for Brad's heart and beautiful diamond on their ringed fingers. Jenni and DeAnna were the last women standing. The audience of women from the series were asked by the show's host, who they predicted would end up with the bachelor.Many of the women chose the spunky Phoenix Suns cheerleader, Jenni. Others predicted DeAnna, the Realtor as the victor. I had made my own assumption as well, based upon the way the women presented Brad to their families and to Brad's family as well. DeAnna seemed more 'knowing' in that she was exhibiting signs of woman character. She appeared to have her head on straight. She also could cook. Jenni, although, the older of the two women, seemed a bit 'illusionary'. Like she had her head filled with clouds of wonderment, ginger bread, Chinese in a box and not quite enough reality. She, after all, was going to become the best darn cheerleader the Suns had ever encountered...So, yes, I had chosen DeAnna. But, all is fair in love and reality. Brad, the bachelor was not feeling it. He could not give either woman a rose. He was left sitting forlornly, fingering that beautiful diamond while the women rode away in that big beautiful stretch Limo, crying and asking "WHY?" Now, they will get a chance to ask Brad, the bewildered bachelor this very same question on the reality shows finale.It is, in my opinion, a question that truly requires no answer. Let us face the reality, people. The man's heart simply did NOT resonate with the pitter-patter true sign of real love that we all have felt at some point in a relationship...Give Brad a break, he is only human and appears to be a true man of substance.Clara B. One day my wife came in from picking up our kids at her sister’s house and wanted to know why we didn’t have Internet service through our Direct TV subscription. She said her sister had just gotten it and loved it. I didn’t want to tell her I didn’t know Direct TV even offered Internet access. She looks up to me and thinks I know everything there is to know about any topic she has questions about. So I let her think it. (Hey, who’s it hurting?) Well, all that did was stir up my wife to nag me about why I hadn’t done what I said I’d do. So back to the computer I went.

The recent publicity over Janet Jackson's weight gain, and subsequent weight loss campaign, also aroused a lot of public opinion and comment. Not surprisingly, given the superstar status of the singer, for me the star of the Jackson family, and the size of the weight reduction she supposedly achieved over a 4 month period.
Janet Jackson is reputedly a yo-yo dieter, someone who has phases of dieting followed by putting all the weight back on. That can never be good for long term health for anyone, and that surely goes for Janet Jackson too. But, she was overweight by the accepted measures that are used by the medical profession today, and she knew it. So she set out on a weight loss campaign, as millions of people around the world do, every year. Only in her case, and on this occasion, she was successful in losing weight.
Cause of Janet Jackon's Weight Gain
Many have speculated how and why Ms Jackson got so heavy in the first place; depression, stress and all the usual reasons have been suggested by various commentators. Some excused that it was her stressful superstar existence that caused the recent problem, and the eating disorders that have been reported on in the past. Maybe, maybe not; that's her business really. Stars in the public limelight do have stresses that may be different to other people's stresses. But there are millions of people not in the limelight who are overweight and may be tempted to blame stress.
Of course, it could be that Janet Jackson just felt like letting herself go for while, and let the weight drift upwards, without feeling any real incentive to keep it under a tight rein. Then one day felt the effects of being too heavy and thought: "That's it, I'm going to lose weight."
Unless Janet Jackson has a medical problem, then being overweight was simply caused by consuming too many calories compared to the energy she was expending each day. That is the case with almost all overweight and obese people. So, once that decision was made to get back to what she thought was her best weight, she had to set about reversing that situation. In other words, strike a better balance between exercise and food consumption.
If the figures that we read at the time were true, Ms Jackson lost weight at a rate well above the "safe" rate suggested by most doctors. She was losing nearly 4 pound a week over the period of 4 months, about double the recommended weight loss rate. But how was she able to do it?
How Janet Jackson Lost Weight
If reports are to be believed, Janet Jackson just did what all the books and experts tell overweight people to do. On the one hand, she had a controlled diet; on the other hand, she had a systematic exercise programme. Now, any of us can do that, but most of us do not. We spend billions of dollars a year on special diets and weight loss plans, and just keep getting heavier. We know what to do, but just don't do it.
In Ms Jackson's case, she did it. To simplify things, she had the motivation to lose weight, despite the effort and self control that was required. If anyone has the motivation, they too can lose weight. There is enough free information to enable anyone to get those pounds off, and to bring their BMI down to a healthy level.
When Janet Jackson's weight loss success was reported, many people dismissed it, saying "oh, it's alright for her, she can afford a personal fitness trainer and personal chef." That, though, is not the point. She could have done the same without the personal chef or trainer; she just happened to take advantage of her wealth to outsource two important features of her weight loss campaign. Surely she would have been too busy to count out her calories every day? Most of us are not, although we may claim to be. And we can all exercise and go to the gym, or just exercise at home, or walk the streets, beaches or fields to burn off those calories.
The simple fact is, Janet Jackson was inspired, for whatever reason, to lose weight, so she did what was necessary. Some say it was to get to looking slim and sexy for a new album, but that does not matter. What does matter is that she found the motivation to reduce her weight, and took seriously to the task with a high level of endurance.
I suspect that for millions of people, motivation is the missing link. Find that inspiration, that motivating factor, and you could be shedding the pounds at a healthy rate suggested by your doctor.
